Iris by Dendrites AI

Two people. Two languages.
One conversation.

You speak in your language. The other person speaks in theirs. Iris listens to both sides and speaks each translation aloud in the other person's language — in real time, both directions.

Two people in conversation through a smartphone — Iris translates between them in real time

What Iris is not: a chatbot. Iris won't answer your questions. It's the AI sitting between you and the other person — like a professional interpreter at a doctor's office, a courtroom, or a business meeting.

Built for real conversations.

Two parties, six parties — same flow. Open the page, set up languages, and start talking. Iris handles the rest.

1

Add participants

Up to six speakers, each with their own language. Optionally record a 6-second voice sample so Iris recognizes who's speaking — even when they're sharing a microphone.

2

Pick a domain

Medical, legal, business, casual, or general. Iris tunes its vocabulary, tone, and translation style to the conversation type — and supports verbatim mode for legal proceedings.

3

Tap once. Talk.

One tap starts the session. Each party speaks normally; Iris translates and plays it back in their counterpart's language. Auto-summary, full transcript, and TXT/Markdown/JSON export when you're done.

Tuned for the moments that matter.

Pick the right context and Iris adapts terminology, formality, and accuracy guarantees automatically.

Clinic visits, intake, telehealth

Drug names, dosages, ICD codes preserved literally. PHI auto-redacted in transcripts. Never gives medical advice.

Depositions, client meetings, intake

Verbatim mode keeps "uhs", repetitions, exact word order. Case numbers and citations preserved exactly.

Negotiations, customer calls

Company names, currencies, deadlines preserved exactly. Tone-matched: firm vs accommodating, depending on context.

Travel, family, friends

Idiomatic. Iris finds culturally appropriate equivalents — "break a leg" becomes the right kind of "good luck" for the listener's culture.

How Iris compares.

Honest table. Iris isn't the right fit for everything yet — here's where it wins and where it doesn't.

Iris is best for the routine 80% of professional conversations where the bottleneck is availability, not certification. For sworn court testimony or fully air-gapped clinical settings, use a certified human or specialty tool.

Built with privacy in mind.

Real features, not buzzwords. Every claim below is wired into the production code.

🔒

Encrypted at rest

AWS KMS-encrypted EBS for the app server & database, AES-256 SSE on every transcript. TLS 1.2+ end-to-end via Cloudflare strict mode.

🩺

PHI auto-redacted

In medical mode, transcripts are scrubbed for SSN, phone, email, and date-of-birth patterns before they're saved. Configurable per session.

📋

Full audit log

Every login, registration, session, and admin action is recorded. Exportable. Required for HIPAA/SOC 2 prep — already in the product.

Frequently asked.

Real questions from early conversations with prospective customers.

How does an Iris session actually work?

Five steps:

  1. Set up the participants. Add yourself plus the other person — up to six people total. For each one, type their name and pick the language they'll speak.
  2. Choose the domain that fits the conversation: General, Medical, Legal, Business, or Casual. Iris tunes its vocabulary, tone, and how strictly it preserves wording.
  3. Tap Start session, then speak naturally. Talk directly to the other person, as if they already understood you. Iris listens and speaks each turn aloud in the listener's language — both directions, in real time. No buttons to press during the conversation.
  4. Tap End when you're finished. Iris generates a summary and saves the full turn-by-turn transcript to your history.
  5. Review any time. Tap any past session to read the transcript, view the summary, or export to TXT, Markdown, or JSON.
What happens to my audio and transcripts?

Audio streams directly from your browser to the AI translation engine for the duration of the call — our servers don't see or store the raw audio mid-conversation. After the session ends, only the transcript (text) is saved to your account on our infrastructure, unless you chose Ephemeral mode.

Transcripts are stored in our isolated us-east-1 infrastructure with AES-256 encryption at rest. You control retention per session (1 day to forever, or "delete on session end" via Ephemeral mode). You can delete your account at any time, which permanently removes everything within 24 hours.

How is this different from a free translation app?

Free consumer translation apps are built for tourism — two people, two languages, no persistence, no audit. Iris is built for professional use: up to 6 participants, domain modes, verbatim mode for legal, transcript export, per-org audit log, and retention controls. If you're a clinician, attorney, or business that interprets weekly, those features change the workflow; a consumer translator doesn't have them.

Is Iris HIPAA compliant?

The product has the technical controls a HIPAA-grade tool needs — PHI auto-redaction in transcripts, audit log, encrypted storage (AWS KMS at rest, TLS strict in transit), configurable retention, role-based access. We do not yet ship a signed BAA on the self-serve plans.

For healthcare deployments that need a BAA + custom DPA, talk to us about Enterprise — those are scoped per engagement. Email [email protected] with your use case and we'll work through the paperwork.

What happens if Iris mishears or invents words?

The system prompt is engineered to never invent content — there's an explicit anti-hallucination rule with negative examples. If audio is unclear, Iris asks the speaker to repeat in their own language rather than guessing.

You can also edit any turn after the fact by long-pressing the speech bubble — Iris re-translates the corrected text. The edit is recorded in the audit log, so for legal use you have a clear "who corrected what" trail.

What languages are supported?

35 languages today: English, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Turkish, Dutch, Polish, Urdu, Persian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Hebrew, Greek, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Bengali, Tamil, Swahili.

Quality is best for the top 10-15 (well-resourced in OpenAI's training data). Rarer languages work but the cadence may be less natural.

What's included in Enterprise?

Enterprise is a custom-scoped engagement, not a packaged tier. Today it typically includes:

  • Custom monthly minute cap and overage rate
  • Custom retention windows (any value, including "delete on session end")
  • Branded subdomain (`yourorg.iris.dendritesai.com`)
  • Priority support and a named contact
  • Monthly check-in for product roadmap input

If you also need a signed BAA, custom DPA, SSO, EHR/CRM integration, or a dedicated tenant — those are scoped per engagement. Email [email protected] describing your use case and we'll quote it.

What if I go over my plan minutes?

Iris finishes the active session, then either pauses new sessions until your monthly cap resets, or charges $0.30/min overage if you've opted in. There's no surprise bill — the picker shows your remaining minutes and warns when you're close to the cap.
