Iris — Help & User Guide

A step-by-step walk-through of the Iris live interpreter, from first sign-up to exporting a transcript. Iris is a real-time AI interpreter for live, in-person conversations — up to 6 participants, each speaking a different language. No app to install.

How a session works (quick overview)

  1. Set up the participants. Add yourself plus the other person — up to six people total. For each one, type their name and pick the language they'll speak.
  2. Choose the domain that fits the conversation: General, Medical, Legal, Business, or Casual. Iris tunes its vocabulary, tone, and how strictly it preserves wording.
  3. Tap Start session, then speak naturally. Talk directly to the other person, as if they already understood you. Iris listens and speaks each turn aloud in the listener's language — both directions, in real time. No buttons to press during the conversation.
  4. Tap End when you're finished. Iris generates a summary and saves the full turn-by-turn transcript to your history.
  5. Review any time. Tap any past session to read the transcript, view the summary, or export to TXT, Markdown, or JSON.

1. Create your account

  1. Open interpret.dendritesai.com.
  2. Click Sign in (top right of the landing page).
  3. Click the Create account tab.
  4. Fill in your email, a password (8+ chars), and your full name (optional but recommended — Iris uses it when introducing you to other participants).
  5. The Cloudflare "I'm not a robot" widget appears briefly. Wait for the green check (1-2 seconds), then click Create account.
  6. You'll see "Check your email".

Verify your email

Open the email from Iris by Dendrites AI <[email protected]> and click Verify my email.

After clicking the link you'll see "Email verified ✓". Click Sign in, enter your email + password, and you're in.

2. Set up your profile (one-time)

The first time you sign in, Iris asks for two pieces of info:

FieldWhy
Your full nameIris uses it when introducing you to other participants — natural-sounding, not "Person A".
Your languageIris's default for you. Iris will skip introducing itself in your language (you already know what's happening) and pre-fill it in every new session.

You can edit these any time from the Profile button at the top of the New session screen.

3. Start a new session

Participants (required)

You're automatically added as Person 1 (the host) with your name and default language. To add the people you'll be talking to:

Add up to 6 participants total. Each can speak a different language.

You are always Person 1 / the host. Iris will not introduce itself to you — you already know what's happening. It will introduce itself only to the other participants, in their language, and mention your name.

Domain (required)

Pick the closest match — it subtly tunes how Iris translates:

DomainBehavior
🌐 GeneralDefault professional tone
🩺 MedicalPreserves drug names, dosages, ICD codes; never gives medical advice
⚖️ LegalVerbatim including hesitations and false starts; for the record
💼 BusinessPreserves company/product names, monetary amounts, deadlines
💬 CasualIdiomatic; culturally appropriate equivalents

Advanced options (optional)

Click Start session

Iris greets the non-host participants in their own language(s), addressing each by name and mentioning you. Iris does NOT introduce itself in your language — saves time.

4. During the conversation

You'll see a big circular mic button:

ListeninggreenIris is hearing what's said
TranslatingorangeIris is processing
PlayingblueIris is speaking the translation

Workflow

  1. Tap the mic once to start. Iris greets the other participants in their language.
  2. Take turns talking. Pause briefly (1-2 seconds) between sentences so Iris knows when to translate.
  3. Iris translates each utterance into every other participant's language, in turn.
  4. Speech bubbles appear below — color-coded by speaker.
  5. Quick actions: ↻ Repeat · 🐢 Slower · 📖 Define · ❓ Clarify
  6. Tap End when done.

What Iris will and won't do

✅ Translate exactly what was said — names, numbers, dates, money, dosages preserved literally.
✅ Match tone and register (formal/casual).
✅ Stay silent when there's no speech to translate.

❌ Will NOT add information not actually spoken.
❌ Will NOT give medical/legal/financial advice.
❌ Will NOT translate background noise or distant chatter.
❌ Will NOT continue talking once participants are speaking.

If audio is unclear, Iris will say once, in the original language: "Sorry, I didn't catch that — could you say it again?"

5. After the session — summary, transcript, export

When you tap End:

  1. Iris generates a summary (key topics, decisions, action items).
  2. The summary is shown on screen.
  3. Export options:
    • ⬇ TXT — plain text transcript with summary header
    • ⬇ Markdown — formatted, ready for paste into notes/email
    • ⬇ JSON — machine-readable
  4. Click Back to home.

Recent sessions appear at the bottom of the picker. Click any to view the full transcript and re-export. Sessions are deleted automatically when their retention runs out (default 30 days).
